    Please read these Terms of Service carefully before using Librisync. By creating an account, you agree to be bound by these terms.

    1. Service Description

    Librisync is a web-based book management platform operated by Sebastian Taatz Consulting UG (haftungsbeschränkt) ("we", "us", "our"). The service allows you to:

    • Organize and manage your personal book collection digitally
    • Scan books via ISBN barcode or AI-powered image recognition
    • Track your reading progress and create wishlists
    • Receive AI-generated book recommendations and tag suggestions
    • Share your library, individual shelves, or curated wishlists with others

    The service is provided "as is" and may be updated, modified, or discontinued at our discretion with reasonable notice.

    2. Account Registration and Security

    To use Librisync, you must create an account by providing a valid email address and a secure password. You agree to:

    • Provide accurate and complete registration information
    • Keep your login credentials confidential and not share them with third parties
    • Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account
    • Be solely responsible for all activities conducted through your account

    You must be at least 16 years of age to create an account. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

    3. Acceptable Use

    You agree to use Librisync only for its intended purpose — managing your personal book collection. You may not:

    • Use the service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of applicable laws
    • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or other users' data
    • Upload malicious content, malware, or harmful code
    • Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to access the service without prior written consent
    • Interfere with the proper functioning of the service or impose unreasonable load on our infrastructure
    • Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the service without authorization

    4. Intellectual Property

    Your Content

    You retain all rights to the data you upload to Librisync, including book notes, tags, and any personal annotations. By using the service, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to process and store your data solely for the purpose of providing the service.

    Our Platform

    All rights to the Librisync platform — including its design, source code, logos, and documentation — are owned by Sebastian Taatz Consulting UG (haftungsbeschränkt). You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse-engineer any part of the platform without our prior written consent.

    5. AI-Powered Features

    Librisync uses artificial intelligence for several features, including book scanning via image recognition, automatic tag suggestions, and personalized reading recommendations.

    Important Notice

    AI-generated content (such as book metadata, tags, and recommendations) is provided for informational purposes only and may contain inaccuracies. We do not guarantee the correctness, completeness, or reliability of AI-generated results. You are responsible for reviewing and verifying any AI-generated information before relying on it.

    6. Third-Party Services

    Librisync integrates with the following third-party services to provide its functionality:

    • Google Books API: For retrieving book metadata (titles, authors, covers) based on ISBN or search queries
    • Google Gemini: For AI-based image and text recognition in bookshelf scans
    • OpenAI: For AI-based text and image processing in book detection and automated tag generation
    • Open Library (openlibrary.org): For book metadata lookup, cover images, and author photos
    • Internet Archive (archive.org): For book cover image search
    • WorldCat (OCLC): For ISBN and book metadata lookup
    • Rainforest API: For retrieving Amazon product data (book metadata, pricing)
    • Supabase: For database hosting, authentication, and application infrastructure (EU servers)
    • Resend: For transactional and product email delivery (EU servers)

    These services are subject to their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the availability or conduct of third-party services. For details on data shared with these providers, please see our Privacy Policy.

    8. Limitation of Liability

    To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law:

    • We provide Librisync without any warranty, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
    • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the service.
    • We are not liable for any loss of data, unless caused by our intentional misconduct or gross negligence.
    • Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, if any.

    This limitation of liability does not affect mandatory statutory rights under German law, including liability for personal injury, intentional misconduct, or gross negligence (§ 309 Nr. 7 BGB).

    9. Termination and Account Deletion

    You may delete your account at any time through your account settings. Upon deletion:

    • Your account and library data will be permanently deleted within 30 days; records required to meet legal obligations, honour opt-outs, or address security needs may be retained
    • You may export your library data before deletion via the data export feature in your account settings
    • Shared links to your library, shelves, or wishlists will become inactive immediately

    We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms of Service, with prior notice where reasonably possible. In case of serious violations, immediate termination without notice may be necessary.

    10. Changes to These Terms

    We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through a prominent notice within the service at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of Librisync after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. If you do not agree with the changes, you may delete your account before they take effect.

    11. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

    These Terms of Service are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG).

    If you are a consumer within the European Union, you also benefit from any mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence. Nothing in these terms affects your rights as a consumer under applicable EU law.

    For commercial users, the exclusive place of jurisdiction is Würzburg, Germany. For consumers, the statutory rules on jurisdiction apply.
